Head Shots and Networking

Head Shots

A head shot is something almost everyone needs going into any job. They can show your professional and 'fun' side. Emily always tries to create a unique and seamless photos. Capturing true expression is the necessity of a good portrait. Emily says, "Whether you are looking to update your profile photo, showcase your team, or plan to frame and hang a piece of art in your home for the next generation to hold, I will work with you to get that perfect look."

During my the end of my first week, I shadowed Emily to a shoot where her client wanted to update her head shots. Emily rents a space at The Golden Rule in Excelsior, where she takes most of her portraits for people.

The Golden Rule

My job was to help her move furniture and objects around, set up lights, fix any hair or make-up, and watch camera techniques.

Networking

By observing Emily, I also learned that in order to be successful, you need to not only be good at what you do, but also network- LOTS! During the shoot, Emily made sure to build a connection with her client and talk with her. This is important because her clients will be more likely to share Emily's contact with other people and friends. This particular person we were taking head shots for found out about Emily through a friend who also had his head shots taken by Emily. As the saying goes, "It's not what you know, it's who you know."
